Knitting Pattern 22 - Newborn Baby Dress

Instructions to knit a reborn or baby dress set in DK yarn. This set comprises a dress, headband and bootees in a two-colour slip stitch pattern. This is a single-sized pattern knitted solely in double knitting yarn, so the set will fit a newborn baby up to 6-10lb or an 18-20 inch reborn doll. I have embellished mine with gathered lace securely sewn around the neckline and the hem (this is optional) and I have mixed and matched satin ribbon flowers which too are optional.

To knit this newborn dress you should be able to knit, purl, slip stitches, increase, knit 2 stitches together and pick up stitches.

For the materials to make this gathered lace dress set, you will need 200g of main colour double knitting yarn, 100g of contrast colour DK yarn and 4 buttons.  You will also need 1 pair of 3.25mm needles and 4mm needles. Additionally, you will need 3 stitch holders and 2 metres of 6mm satin ribbon for the bootees to complete this set.  For embellishments, you will need 4 metres of 1-inch gathered lace and 18 small satin flowers. Alternatively, you can add any embellishments of your choice. 

Whilst we have used bold and dark colours for our gathered lace dress knitting pattern photo, this set will look just as pretty in pastel colours.  Angela, who very kindly tested the pattern for us, used pink and white for her set.  To get an idea of what the set looks like in pastel colours, you can find her photo in our gallery attached to this listing.
