Knitting Pattern 65 – Side Buttoning Vest

Instructions to knit a girl’s side buttoning bodysuit with matching bonnet and shoes.  It has been designed with a lace pattern and plain stocking stitch, so you can adjust the shoes so you can either have one shoe plain, one shoe patterned, both shoes patterned, or both shoes plain.  You can also adjust the sleeves to have both plain, both patterned or one of each as shown in the photo.

To make this baby bodysuit you need to be able to knit, purl, slip stitches, pass slipped stitches over, yarn over needle, yarn forward, increase and pick up stitches.

You will need:

15-16” or 37.5-40cm Height (Approx 2.5-4lb Prem) Size

50g 4ply yarn in colour A, 50g in colour B, 9 buttons, 1m ribbon for the bonnet, 4 stitch holders, 1 x pr 2.75mm needles making a tension of 30sts and 38 rows to 10cm square over stocking stitch.

16-17” or 40-42.5cm Height (Approx 3-5lb Prem) Size

50g 4ply yarn in colour A, 50g in colour B, 9 buttons, 1m ribbon for the bonnet, 4 stitch holders, 1 x pr 3.25mm needles making a tension of 28sts and 36 rows to 10cm square over stocking stitch.

18-19” or 45-47.5cm Height (Approx 5-7lb Newborn) Size

50g each of colour A & B 4ply yarn, 9 buttons, 1m ribbon for the bonnet, 4 stitch holders, 1 x pr 3.75mm needles or dk yarn and 3.25mm needles making a tension of 26sts and 34 rows to 10cm square over stocking stitch.

20-21” or 50-52.5cm Height (Approx 8-10lb Newborn) Size

100g dk yarn in colour A, 50g in colour B, 9 buttons, 1m ribbon for the bonnet, 4 stitch holders, 1 x pr 3.75mm needles making a tension of 24sts and 32 rows to 10cm square over stocking stitch.

22” or 55cm Height (0-3 Months) Size

100g dk yarn in colour A, 50g in colour B, 9 buttons, 1m ribbon for the bonnet, 4 stitch holders, 1 x pr 4mm needles making a tension of 22sts and 30 rows to 10cm square over stocking stitch.
